Leadership Philosophy
Leadership Philosophy
The construct and leadership operations inside of TC are founded upon clearly articulated principles of biblical leadership. While “leadership” is a vast subject, there are certain precepts and values which bring strong, secure governance and relevant leadership to the members of TC. We believe that there are past leadership paradigms and attitudes which are irrelevant and in opposition to correct and ethical leadership. Some of these misconceptions regarding leadership are:
- seeing leadership as a privileged position rather than a place of servitude
- seeing leadership as domination, control or illusiveness rather than proximity to the people
- seeing leadership as the ability to preach or “have an anointing” rather than the ability to manage people with a wisdom which brings forth personal growth and development
We see leadership as a complex operation which moves those called to leadership from individuality to collaboration, from dominance to deference, from individuality to community, and from controlling to catalytic. The very core of our leadership operations are driven from the perspective that leadership is about elevating people and bringing them into full competency in every dimension of their lives. Leadership within TC is also predicated upon the reality that leaders must change first before expecting change from the people. The Pharisee dimension has always operated upon the platform of leaders who declare change to others while remaining stagnant in personal growth and elevation.
Therefore, the leaders at TC make full effort to embrace such personal positions as:
- the absolute necessity for continued personal transformation
- the reality that we take ownership of no one and therefore we refuse to “possess the people”
- the continued demand to understand the current context from which we live life today and yet be neither driven nor controlled by the environment in which we live
- the ability to wisely plan, strategize and design relevant systems of community life which emanates Kingdom of God culture
- the requirement to serve while at the same time operating from a position of rank and oversight
- the need for the combination of innovative thinking, competence, and the full acquisition of Kingdom values (eg. truth, consistency, honesty, integrity, etc).
- the mandate to hear the voice of God in all operations so as to stay within the parameters of His will
Leadership at TC is seen as a serious responsibility and consequently, selection and utilization of leaders is based upon recognized leadership qualifications, aligned competency, and public commissioning. We believe that leadership functionality is measured not in one’s ability to preach or teach but in the power to craft an environment which empowers people, brings people to a place of ownership, discipleship, learning, connectedness, enhanced relationship, vulnerability, transparency, humility and trust. The core driver of leadership development at TC is to produce leaders whose lives become a conduit through which grace flows from one to another.
